Middle Child

January 14, 2018

When we arrived at the beach, my brothers each walked over to the truck to introduce themselves. They hugged me and kissed both of my cheeks welcoming me. They were tall men and they looked just like me! Are these really my people! Can this really be possible?

We got to know one another in the sunshine. We enjoyed a homemade Hawaiian feast watching the kids immediately bond at the beach while swimming in the ocean. It is amazing how children can connect so quickly without the hesitation or trepidation. Two of my brothers are married with children. Their wives are beautiful, open, kind and welcoming.

The oldest brother is an attorney and serves in elected office. He is articulate, thoughtful and a leader. He is clearly the head of this sibling pack. At one point while we are visiting he sighs and declares, “I am a middle child now”.
