My Dad

January 14, 2018

On Hawaiian Airlines, from Gate 15 at 10:39 a.m. we flew from Maui to Oahu. To say I was nervous is a complete understatement.

We deplaned, walked to the arrival area and waited for my Dad to pick us up. Soon a very tall Hawaiian man in a truck pulled to the curb next to us. He slowly got out of the car, walked to the sidewalk and with tears in his eyes gave me a hug. After greeting my husband and daughter, he placed lei’s on us kissing both of our cheeks.

Once settled in the truck, he showed me a gift bag with two books in it, Hawaii’s Story, by Hawaii’s Queen Liluokalani, and an English to Hawaiian Dictionary. He said the Queen’s Story was about our family and that the last living Queen was related to us. The dictionary was because I will need to learn Hawaiian!
