Why not me?

July 11, 2018

I was walking with my Aunty this morning sharing my excitment to meet one my first cousin’s today. Aunty shared with me that she, my Dad and my Uncle raised this cousin and her brother. She went on to add how my Uncle’s divorce was challenging but the family was there to raise the two children, together. She was very proud of the accomplishments these kids (now adults) had made despite the obstacles they overcame. The first thought that came to my mind was, why not me? Why didn’t the family come together to raise me? I tried to dismiss the thought focusing on the positivity of today. I focused on how the family has embraced me and how happy my Dad is that I found him. But the question was still at the back of my mind.
